FAQ’S

QUESTIONS?

The Run by the Bay is an event suited to beginner runners and experienced racers.

We expect athletes to have quite a few questions, and that is normal.

If you have general questions about how to prepare for and fantastically finish your race, go to the First-Timers Guide .

On this page we try to answer all your event specific questions.

REGISTERING FOR THE RACE

How will I know if my registration for CSC Run By The Bay 2018 is successful?

Participants will receive a confirmation email upon successful registration.

What are the race categories and who is eligible?
  • 21.1km Run is open to any individual who is 18 years old and above as of 20 October 2018
  • 12.8km Run is open to any individual who is 14 years old and above (General Public) and 16 years old and above (Public Officer) as of 20 October 2018
  • 6km Run is open to any individual who is 10 years old and above as of 20 October 2018. Runners between 10-15 years must be accompanied by a responsible adult who is also a participant during the run.
  • Public Officer categories are only open to Civil Servants and Officers serving in the Statutory Boards, Restructured Hospitals, and Government-Aided Schools

Note: Some younger runners may be able to satisfactorily complete the respective run distances. However, the minimum ages are set with the intention of keeping young runners safe and healthy and provide them with a positive running experience. We hope this will encourage them to continue running.

What is the Ekiden?

The name Ekiden comes from the famous long-distance relay race in Japan.  At CSC Run by the Bay the Ekiden is a relay race over the 21.1km distance.  Teams comprising of three athletes run 7km each, passing a sash from one runner to another at designated handover points. The aim being to cover the 21.1km distance as quickly as possible! Get your friends together and start formulating your team’s race strategy!

I am unable to race due to illness/injury. Can I get a refund?

Once the registration form has been processed, there are strictly no refunds for participants who, for whatever reason, eventually do not take part.

Can I transfer my entry to another athlete if I choose not to race?

No. Race entries are strictly non-transferable. Personal information such as medical condition are tagged to each unique participant and competing on behalf of the registered participant is not permitted.

Any person doing so will be held responsible in case of an accident arising from or provoked by the other person during the race. The Event Organiser reserves the right to disqualify the race entry and/or refuse participant’s entry into the start pen for race entries that have been transferred.  The Organisers reserve the right to exclude both parties from future events.

Can I enter on race morning?

Sorry, there are absolutely NO entries taken on race day!

Can the general public take part in the Public Officer "Team of 4" event?

No. “Team of 4”  teams must register online through their respective Sports Liaison Officers/Team managers of the government agencies.

Can I make changes to my particulars after completing my registration?

Yes. You may change your address, phone number, emergency contact details and medical details. You may login to your MyActive account to make these changes.

Please note that you WILL NOT be able to change the following details:

  • Race Category
  • Full Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Gender
  • Nationality
  • Email address
  • T-shirt or Singlet option, or size
Can I change my race category after completing my registration?

No. Please ensure that you register in the correct race category.

PRE RACE / RACE KIT COLLECTION

Is race kit collection compulsory? What do I need to bring with me to race kit collection?

Yes. All participants are required to bring a registration confirmation and photo ID (e.g. passport or driver’s license) to collect their race kit and goodie bag.

 

Public Officers please note – presentation of your Staff pass is mandatory. We reserve the right not to issue race packs to any Public Officers who are unable to show proof of identity at race kit collection.

 

CSC members are required to show their membership card for verification.

Do I need to collect my race kit in person or can I send somebody to collect it on my behalf?

If you are unable to collect the race kit in person, you may appoint a representative. Check out the race kit collection page for more information on what documents your representative should bring to collect your race kit.

I am unable to make it to Race Kit Collection on either day and have no one to collect for me. Can I collect on race day itself?

No. We have a race kit delivery service you can utilise. Further information will be shared on our Race Kit Collection page closer to the event.

Will there be a race briefing?

An electronic race day guide will be available on the event website, and emailed to you, at least one week prior to the race. Please take the time to read it carefully.

Where do I get my official Run by the Bay t-shirt or singlet?

You will receive your pre-selected choice of event t-shirt or singlet at Race Kit Collection.

Will I be allowed to change the size of my event t-shirt or singlet at Race Kit Collection?

Strictly no exchanges are allowed. All participants are advised to select sizing carefully using the size chart from the event website.

When will I receive my 21.1km finisher t-shirt?

21.1km participants will receive it after successfully completing the 21.1km race.  It will be available for collection at the finish line.  You will be given the same size shirt as you requested for your complimentary athlete shirt.

Please note that Ekiden runners are not entitled to a finisher shirt.

Where do I pin my race number?

You have to wear your race number on the front of your shirt during the run. Competitive runners must pay particular attention to ensure all race bibs are clearly pinned and visible.

How can I get to the race village?

Make your way to Stadium MRT. We will have shuttle buses running continuously from Indoor Stadium Bus Stop to the venue at Gardens Bay the Bay East. Click here to read more.

What is the flag-off time for each category?

Do you have any training clinics I can attend to improve my running skills?

Yes, we have arranged some coached training clinics prior to race day with great technique and fitness tips. Please click here to read more

Can I race with an MP3 or other music player?

Yes, headphones and music players are permitted.

DURING THE RACE

Does someone keep track that I complete the full course?

Yes we will have intermediate timing checkpoints and video recording to ensure everyone completes the entire course.

 

Competitive runners should to ensure that all race bibs are in a prominent position when crossing the respective timings mats. Disputes on race timings for potential winners will be based on such runners successfully crossing all the respective timing mats. Competitive runners with incomplete, missing or no timing data will be subjected to verification before being awarded prizes.

I am new to running the 21.1km and 12.8 km distance. Will there be official pacers who will guide us for race day?

Yes we will have fun, motivational pacers to inspire you to achieve your goal finish time.  The pace times are:

 

21.1km

  • 1:40
  • 1:50
  • 2:00
  • 2:10
  • 2:20
  • 2:30

 

12.8km

  • 60 mins
  • 75 mins
  • 90 mins
What are the cut-off times on the course?

We try our best to ensure everyone finishes the race!  Cut-off times for each distance are:

  • 21.1km: 4:00 hrs
  • 12.8km: 2:45 hrs
  • 6km: 1:20 hrs

AFTER THE RACE

Where and when are the awards ceremony?

The awards ceremony takes place at the finish area directly after the race.

Do I receive a medal?

Yes, all finishers receive a medal at the finish line.

Where can I find my results?

Official times will be posted at the Race Results page on our website by midnight on race day, 20 October 2018.

I have a protest about the results

Any official protest regarding results for any competitive category (involving prizes) must be lodged via the Information Desk within 15 mins of results being published on the results board on site.

Any protests, whether in verbal or written will NOT be entertained after the 15 minute window closes.

 

All general result queries (not involving prizes) must be lodged with the organisers within 7 days of the event.

Prize Money Collection

Winners have to be present in person to collect cash prizes.

 

All winners will be required to show proof of identity to claim prizes.

 

Foreign prize winners who are working and residing in Singapore are required to show proof of identity via employment pass or work permit. Foreign prize winners NOT residing and working in Singapore must present passport for verification purposes.

 

The event organiser reserves the right not to issue cash prizes to any potential prize winners without proper identification.

 

All prize winners are required to sign an acknowledgement form when claiming cash prizes.

E-Certificates

All runners will be able to download their e-certificate from Sunday 21 October 2018.
